The Calling first became known world wide with their album 'Camino Palmero' (named after the street where Alex grew up). It was an extremely successful album which reached a global audience. In April 2002 Alex came to Australia with The Calling, and their song 'Wherever You Will Go' became a top 5 ARIA  hit in Australia.

'Wherever you will go' achieved gold plus status and hit the top 5 sales chart. It reached the #1 airplay position in Australia and maintained that for four weeks. The next single released in Australia was 'Adrienne'. This became a Music Network premiere pick.

When Alex visited Australia, he appeared in concert at The Metro in Sydney, performed at Fox Studios ('Wherever you will go' and 'Adrienne') and appeared on numerous Australian TV shows. These included: The Panel, Good Morning Australia, Big Arvo, MTV Australia, The Drum, Sunrise, and Off the Air, ABC.

Camino Palmero was among the top 20 on the ARIA chart and was no.1 on the Alternative Charts and reached Gold status. 

In November 2002 they were named 'Best New Act' at the MTV European Music Awards and the single "Adrienne" was voted 'Best New Rock Song' at the Teen Choice Awards.

The Calling's song 'Wherever You Will Go' was first heard and performed in the movie "Coyote Ugly". Their songs also feature in "Daredevil", "Sweet Home Alabama",  and "Love Actually".
In 2003 The Calling were nominated for an APRA 2003 Music Award (Australian Performing Rights Association) The nomination was for the 'Most Performed Foreign Work' category.

In 2003, Alex had an opportunity to record and perform the number 1 hit single "Why Don't You and I?" with Carlos Santana.

In 2004, Alex had a small part in an independent film, "A Fish Without a Bicycle" with Jennifer Sky.  The song 'Take Hold of Me' was written and performed by Alex in this film. The most recent album 'Two' was released all over the world and demonstrated their artistic maturity. Several tracks on the CD 'Two' were collaborated by the BMG Chairman and CEO, Clive Davis.

In 2004, The Calling released  their first song 'Our Lives' from the album 'Two'. An upbeat song with a positive message. It was played in the U.S.A  at the closing of the Olympic Games. It was also used as a theme for a TV Show.
